COMMUNITEA
We believe in acting responsibly and compassionately in our community and are conscientious of those - from farmer to packer - who participate in and contribute to our journey. In addition to this core philosophy many of our teas are now Fair Trade Certified™.
OUR PARTNERS
Community Gatepath: Turning Disabilities into Possibilities
Numi co-packs its Assorted Boxes and Bamboo Gift packs with Community Gatepath: Turning Disabilities into Possibilities. Their mission is to "enable children and adults with disabilities to achieve their full potential in health and work, and to live as fully integrated members of the community". Numi has been a prized and valued customer of Community Gatepath, voted customer of the year in 2001, 2003 & 2005.
American Apparel
Numi purchases its T-shirts from American Apparel, known for sweat-shop free t-shirts.
OUR PARTNERS OVERSEAS
Numi believes in creating and supporting programs that benefit the farmers and workers for all of our overseas partners. We work directly with many of our suppliers to ensure the fair treatment of the workers, better working and living conditions, and an overall improved quality of life for their families. We visit and investigate new suppliers before we create partnerships with them. This includes supporting tea and herb producers who provide fair wages, fair and reasonable work hours, and support for the workers and their families. At the gardens where many of our teas are grown and produced, the workers are provided with free land and good housing. Numi works with the managing director of these tea gardens to ensure that the wages of the pickers and factory workers are significantly higher than the average Chinese worker. In addition many of our teas are now Fair Trade Certified™.
Bamboo Project
Our bamboo production employs an entire village in China where employees receive above average wages, housing, additional healthcare and good working conditions. For the past year, Numi has given back a portion of its bamboo proceeds to sponsor a new factory after floods destroyed their current one, and will continue this effort to improve working conditions.
Freeset
Numi's Tote bags are purchased from Freeset, a company that offers sewing skills, literacy, and fair trade employment to Indian women once involved in the prostitution trade.
