We have a number of our staff adding Green Smoothies to their daily diets and are experiencing wonderful health benefits. We decided we needed to share this information with our customers! Join us for the Green Smoothie 101 Class and/or Challenge * Harvest Health Foods challenges you to consume 1 quart of Green Smoothie daily for 14 days. Even if you do not change anything else you will feel the benefit of increasing the amount of greens and fruits in your daily diet. Research shows that addting more greens to our diet helps us lose weight, lower cholesterol, improve digestion, cleanse our body, and that is just a few of the benefits. You'll never take the time to "CHEW" the amount of greens and fruits that are contained in your daily Raw Green Smoothie. 2. RAW -Live Enzymes -- foods that are not cooked maintain their life giving enzymes which help with digestion and a host of other health benefits. We'll talk more about enzymes later. 3. Many of us shy away from nutrient dense greens such as, kale or spinach. Or we will only eat them cooked which reduce their nutritional value. You can pack your smoothie with a variety of beneficial greens. 4. You don't ever have to add a high calorie 'dressing' to this salad. 5. Fiber - The American diet is practically void of fiber. Fiber wasn't meant to come in a capsule, we should be able to get our fiber from food. The fiber contained in fruits and vegetables are easily assimilated by our bodies and produce the cleansing effects that are very beneficial. 6. Easily assimilated nutrients from fruits and vegetables. You'll easily increase your fruit and vegetable consumption well beyond the RDA requirements. Check out our favorite blender that we have in stock at our three stores. The BlendTec Blender. The "strength" of your blender will determine how much you will need to pre-chop or tear your smoothie ingredients. Before committing to purchase my BlendTec I used my food processor - with ok results. You have to do minimal chopping with the BlendTec which does save time. Basic Green Smoothie 1-2 Cup Clean filtered water 1/2 lb to 1 lb raw greens (spinach, Kale (Lacinato is less bitter than curly kale), collards, dandelion, arugula or mustard. (Depending on your blender you may need to add greens in batches to blend) 1-2 Cup of fruit- frozen are great! - Gradually add to the greens Agave Nectar or Stevia to taste Mix till very smooth - . Enjoy! If you have extra Green Smoothie, place in a safe container and refrigerate for later that day. Smoothies are best consumed that day but are ok the following morning. * If this blend seems too Green to you, start with more fruit and increase your greens as you develop your taste for Green Smoothies. There are numerous variations to the basic green smoothie along with many additional items to suit your taste and nutritional needs. We will add these options as we go!
